Professor Emeritus of World Competitiveness, IMD & University of Lausanne Founder, IMD World Competitiveness Center

Stéphane Garelli is one of the world's leading authorities on the competitiveness of nations and companies. Professor Emeritus at IMD and at the University of Lausanne, he founded the IMD World Competitiveness Center and has devoted more than thirty years to understanding what enables economies, organisations and individuals to remain competitive in a changing world. He was previously Managing Director of the World Economic Forum and of its annual meetings in Davos, adviser to Hewlett-Packard's European management, and Chairman of the Board of Le Temps. The author of several books, including World Competitiveness: Rewriting the Rules of Global Prosperity, published in 2025, he now examines the new rules of an economy that remains global even as the order that organised it fragments. His perspective spans economics, geopolitics, technology and society, around one central question: how do you stay in control of your future when the rules of the game change?
